While measuring some switchmode power supply stuff, I found that the loop formed by the ground lead on the oscilloscope probe was sufficient to pick up some interference from the circuit. I discovered that it was possible to make direct connection to the probe tip by using a fuse holder clip for the ground connection and a Nixie tube pin socket for the pin. This helped reduce the interference considerably.
